The SG-1 team will delve deeper into the history of the Ancients, the mysterious race that is believed to have built the Stargate network millions of years ago, executive producer Robert C. Cooper told Sci Fi Wire.
"One of the things we're going to be exploring in Season Nine is the origin of the Ancients and the Gatebuilders," Cooper said. "And it's something I know fans have been sort of very curious about, and have sort of asked to see. And that is one of the things we're really going to be delving into: Who the ancients really are, and where they came from, and we may even get a chance to go there."
Cooper also said that the show will introduce new villains and take the show in a new direction, while still remaining faithful to the show's established mythology.
General Jack O'Neill will also continue to be involved at Stargate Command, the executive producer said -- despite the uncertainty of actor Richard Dean Anderson's involvement. "His character is going to remain very much alive in the Stargate [SG-1] universe," Cooper said. "He ... is going to be integral in commanding what goes on at the S.G.C."
Negotiations with Anderson are still underway, and Cooper added that the producers do not yet know how many episodes he will actually appear in.
