TEASER

EXT-DESTINY IN SPACE

[Destiny is flying at sublight speeds, slowly approaching a blue planet and a red star in the distance.]

INT-DESTINY KINO ROOM

[Eli is watching the kino footage of the school opening on Novus.]

MATTHEW WALLACE

(on video)

I'd like to thank you all for coming to this very special occasion, the dedication of our beautiful new school.

[Rush arrives at the open door and knocks.]

RUSH
Hey.

MATTHEW WALLACE

(on video)

My grandfather...

RUSH
Do you have those calculations?

MATTHEW WALLACE

(on video)

...laying down the foundation for our education system. That's why this new school bears his name...

[Eli hands Rush a piece of paper.]

ELI
The bottom left corner.

MATTHEW WALLACE

(on video)

...do my best to uphold his legacy of inquiry...

[Rush opens the paper, which is covered in writing, and turns it until he finds the part Eli was talking about.]

RUSH
Well, here's hoping something comes of Mister Brody's paper-making project.

[Eli gives a grunt and nod of agreement and resumes watching the kino footage.]

MATTHEW WALLACE

(on video)

...for future generations. Now please, help me welcome...

RUSH
How many times have you watched that?

MATTHEW WALLACE

(on video)

...two-term mayor-

[Eli stops the playback and turns to face Rush.]

ELI
There's no TV.

RUSH
Look, really Eli, if you've nothing better to do, there's far more important-

ELI
I'm adding this footage to my documentary. I think it's important.

RUSH
Oh, yeah? Why's that then?

[Rush leans on the wall and folds his arms.]

ELI

(incredulously)

They're our descendants.

RUSH
Not mine; I wasn't there.

ELI
Okay, they're still us. Humans. I just wish they hadn't all left. I kind of like the idea of having new faces around.

RUSH
Oh, yeah? Well, if they really did spread all over the galaxy, I would suggest that the chances of bumping into them again are pretty high.

[Eli shrugs.]

RUSH
Plus, this isn't a passenger ship.

[He turns and walks away. Eli shakes his head disappointedly.]

EXT-DESTINY IN SPACE

[Destiny approaches the blue planet.]

INT-DESTINY BRIDGE

[Rush enters the bridge, where Volker and Brody are working at consoles.]

RUSH
What's this?

VOLKER
It's a gas giant.

BRODY
For some reason, Destiny's decided to maneuver around the fat gas giant in order to line up with the star. What's that about?

RUSH
Well, I'm sure Destiny has its reasons. It's happened before.

VOLKER
Yeah, but it takes forever.

RUSH
Are you in a hurry to be somewhere?

BRODY
No, but power reserves are still at forty percent.

VOLKER
It's as bad as my grandfather. He was always filling his Buick at half a tank. Destiny's kind of doing the same thing.

[Rush and Brody look at him blankly.]

VOLKER
It just struck me as funny.

RUSH
Oh yeah, that is funny. That his life and the lives of those around him depended on making it to the next gas station. That's bloody hilarious, really.

[Young enters.]

YOUNG
Are we there yet?

BRODY
Thirty seconds from contact.

[Young sits in the command chair and operates the comms system to address the crew.]

YOUNG

(into comms)

This is Young. We are about to perform an aero-braking maneuver. There may be turbulence. Stand by.

[Rush stands by the command chair, holding the edge of the console as Destiny begins to fly over the edge of the gas planet.]

YOUNG

(to Rush)

Good morning.

RUSH
Morning.

YOUNG
You good?

RUSH
Tired.

EXT-DESTINY IN FLIGHT

[Destiny flies through the blue upper atmosphere of the planet.]

INT-DESTINY KINO ROOM

[Eli is still at the console. The ship is shuddering.]

EXT-DESTINY IN FLIGHT

[Destiny flies through the blue upper atmosphere of the planet and back out into space. As Destiny approaches the nearby sun, there is another large ship and numerous small ones sitting in front of it.]

INT-DESTINY BRIDGE

[An alarm sounds on Brody's console.]

BRODY
We got drones, dead ahead. A ton of them.

VOLKER
And a command ship.

YOUNG
What the hell are they doing here?

BRODY
Coming right at us.

[Everyone looks out at the approaching drones, concerned.]

OPENING CREDIT

EXT-SPACE

[The drones fly towards Destiny in a massive swarm.]

INT-DESTINY BRIDGE

[Scott enters the bridge and goes to a console.]

SCOTT
Where did they come from?

BRODY
Maybe they were here all along, and we couldn't see them from behind the planet.

VOLKER
Still have a couple of minutes or so before we can safely go back into FTL.

YOUNG
How soon we they be on top of us?

VOLKER
Couple of minutes.

YOUNG
Lieutenant, let's see if we can get around them.

SCOTT
Yes, Sir.

EXT-DESTINY IN SPACE

[Destiny veers off to starboard, but the drones change course to pursue the ship.]

INT-DESTINY BRIDGE

SCOTT
Sir, the swarm of drones and the command ship are maneuvering to stay between us and the star. Unless you want to head right at them-

YOUNG
That is a negative. Where the hell is-

[Eli comes running in and goes to a console.]

ELI
How many of them are there?

BRODY
Oh, I don't know. I lost count at about a hundred.

YOUNG
Can we jam them?

VOLKER
Drones are thirty seconds out.

ELI
I can't jam them in thirty seconds.

RUSH
It doesn't matter, we can jump soon.

YOUNG
Well, maybe we should just punch through. They won't follow us into a star.

RUSH
We're never going to make it.

YOUNG
We need to refuel.

RUSH
Well, Destiny can choose another star. There's no point fighting unless we have to.

VOLKER
Ten seconds to contact.

YOUNG
Lieutenant, go to FTL.

RUSH
Not for another fifteen seconds.

YOUNG
How is that not close enough?

VOLKER
They're firing.

EXT-DESTINY IN SPACE

[The drones are firing on Destiny, the shields absorbing the blasts.]

INT-DESTINY BRIDGE

[There are drones flying past the windows and the flash of explosions outside.]

RUSH
Five seconds.

YOUNG
Lieutenant, stand by.

SCOTT

(operating controls)

Yes, Sir. FTL in three, two, one.

[The ship jumps into FTL, and everyone relaxes a little.]

YOUNG

(into comms)
This is Young, we are clear of the drones.
(to the room)

Okay, what the hell was that?

VOLKER
It's like they were lying in wait.

RUSH
It could be we just got unlucky.

YOUNG
You mean they just happened to be here?

RUSH
Well, they have to be somewhere.

ELI
Yeah, but space is really, really big.

RUSH
Look, as far as we know, they can only track us when we activate the Stargate, so please, let's not overreact.

[Rush leaves the bridge.]

ELI
How about, let's not under-react.

[Eli goes after Rush.]

INT-DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

[Rush is looking at the heads-up display showing Destiny's course. Eli arrives.]

ELI
You don't really think it was a coincidence.

RUSH
Oh, call it wishful thinking if you like.

ELI
Because you realize if it's not a coincidence-

RUSH
Then we have a very big problem.

ELI
No. No, no, no, we're totally screwed. This could be it; the end of the line.

RUSH
Yeah, I just said that.

ELI
So, why, why do we need to find another star? Destiny will just fly towards the nearest red dwarf in our path.

RUSH
Which is exactly why we shouldn't go to that one.

ELI
You think they were waiting for us.

RUSH
Look, we know they can't track us, but it is possible that they can predict our course, meaning if Destiny hadn't plotted that time-consuming maneuver...

ELI
We would have had to fight it out for the whole three hours before we could go to FTL.

RUSH
Or be forced to jump prematurely.

ELI
Which would have shredded our FTL dri-

[Eli stops speaking mid-sentence and sighs as the realization of what he is saying dawns on him.]

ELI
We got lucky.

RUSH
Yeah, we did. But we can't count on luck a second time, plus we've no option but to recharge, so... we go off the path.

[Rush operates the console and, on the display, a star some way from Destiny's plotted course begins to flash.]

EXT-DESTINY IN SPACE

INT-DESTINY BRIDGE

[Young is in the command chair, Volker, Brody, Wray and Eli are standing on the mezzanine behind him. Rush is beside him, and Greer, James and Scott are at the consoles.]

YOUNG
Contacts.

JAMES
Nothing yet.

VOLKER
Well, we're too far out from the primary for sensors to pick anything up. I wouldn't celebrate.

WRAY
Why did we drop out so far away?

ELI
To make sure that the minimum time elapsed before we could go back to FTL. Don't want to run into drones with time on the clock.

WRAY

(sighs)

I still don't understand what they want from us.

ELI
It's nothing personal; it's what they're programmed to do. Destroy all technology other than their own. And, apparently they weren't programmed to give up.

SCOTT
A few seconds away from FTL capability, Sir.

YOUNG
Copy that.

ELI
So far, so good.

[Wray walks down the steps to the lower level.]

WRAY
This room needs more chairs.

[Young gets up from the command chair.]

YOUNG
Here, please. Go ahead.

WRAY
No, no, no. That, that's your--

YOUNG
What am I, Captain Kirk? I need to stretch my legs anyway. Please.

WRAY
Thank you.

[Wray sits in the command chair, and Rush walks past her.]

RUSH
Don't touch anything.

SCOTT
And that's three hours. We can jump any time now.

WRAY
That's good.

ELI
That's huge. I mean, I-I don't want to jinx anything, but I think we might actually be able to get-

[James' console beeps.]

JAMES
Sir? We've got a contact downrange.

ELI

(quietly)

Damn it!

YOUNG
They headed our way?

SCOTT
Yes, Sir. Multiple drones, multiple vectors. There's a command ship, too, holding position between us and the star.

GREER
That's a blockade.

YOUNG
How long before they reach us?

RUSH
It doesn't matter - we can't fight our way through this. Plus, we're running low on power anyway.

YOUNG
Lieutenant, get us out of here.

SCOTT
Yes, Sir.

[Scott operates the controls.]

EXT-DESTINY IN SPACE

[Destiny jumps into FTL.]

INT-DESTINY MESS

[There is a meeting happening. Greer, Wray, Young, Rush, Eli, Volker, TJ, Wray, Chloe and Telford, in Scott's body, are present.]

YOUNG
So, Sergeant Greer was bang-on in his assessment. The drones cannot track us, so instead, they've blockaded the stars from which Destiny recharges.

TELFORD/SCOTT
They can't possibly be waiting at every star in your path.

ELI
It doesn't matter - they only have to be at the next one.

TELFORD/SCOTT
What do you mean?

RUSH
Well, our reserves are such that we're only getting one more chance.

TJ
Systems are shutting down all over. I just lost power in the infirmary.

RUSH
Well, fortunately Eli has an idea. It's absolute insanity, and it's the only choice we've got.

ELI
Don't oversell it.

[Eli stands up to address the room.]

ELI
Okay. So, the drones have figured out our weakness. Destiny needs to replenish its reserves and only uses certain kinds of stars to do it.

TELFORD/SCOTT
Main sequence, spectral K or M, ah, mostly red dwarves.

CHLOE
So we recharge off another kind of star. What's so crazy about that?

ELI
The only way to make sure the drones won't be waiting is to pick a star that Destiny wouldn't fly into in a million years.

GREER
No, don't, don't tell me. Death star.

[Eli and Wray smile.]

ELI
Close. Uh, a blue super giant.

[Telford/Scott gives an incredulous laugh.]

VOLKER

(horrified)

Are you kidding me?

ELI
We said it was crazy.

VOLKER
Yeah, it's crazy times a thousand! Do you have any idea how much heat a Class O star puts out? I'm telling you right now, we can't survive something like that.

ELI
And I never said we would.

VOLKER
Well, then I think it's a very bad plan.

ELI
The shields will hold!

VOLKER
Yeah, which is terrific, Eli, except the temperatures we're talking about are way outside Destiny's life-support margins. A few compartments are going to get over four hundred degrees.

RUSH
Which is why the majority of the crew will go to a planet within range, and a team will stay behind to manually pilot the ship through.

TELFORD/SCOTT
Why not just program the ship to do it, and all of you can go?

ELI
Because, even if Destiny accepted the program, which I doubt, the core systems would shut themselves down because of the temperature. Somebody's got to stay on board.

WRAY
Hmm. And just who gets to decide that?

TELFORD/SCOTT

(sighs)

We use the communication stones and get the most qualified people aboard.

RUSH
The most qualified people are already on board. It's myself and Eli.

TELFORD/SCOTT
You're volunteering for this?

RUSH
This is our own lives that are on the line. You're not even bloody here.

[Telford, appearing as Scott, looks around uncomfortably.]

TJ
But, those kind of temperatures-

YOUNG
The suits can handle it.

RUSH
It won't be comfortable, but yeah.

CHLOE
Wait, how do we know there'll be a planet orbiting the star you're talking about?

RUSH
Well, there won't be. Certainly not a habitable one.

ELI
But, we think there'll be at least one or two Stargates in nearby star systems.

TJ
Won't an active Stargate attract drones to the planet we go to?

RUSH
Eventually, yeah.

YOUNG
But hopefully not before we can 'gate back.

RUSH
Hopefully not.

TELFORD/SCOTT
Are we sure the drones won't expect us to try this?

GREER
It's crazy times a thousand.

VOLKER
I take it back, Eli. It's a great plan.

TELFORD/SCOTT
Okay, guys. I'll try to sell this idea to Homeworld, but I'm telling you right now-

YOUNG
David, we're not asking permission, we're informing you. We're low on power, and we don't have time to screw around. We're doing this.

EXT-DESTINY IN FTL

INT-DESTINY BOTANICAL DOME

[Chloe, Scott, Park and numerous other personnel are picking fruit and vegetables and collecting plant samples.]

SCOTT
If we keep them on the vine, we could have smoking sun-dried tomatoes.

CHLOE
Smoking all right. Every plant in here is going to burn to the ground.

SCOTT
Yeah, don't ask me why that doesn't happen every time.

PARK
Well, the EM of a Class O star is just too intense for the shield to attenuate over such a large transparent surface.

SCOTT
I'm guessing the observation deck's not the place to be, either.

PARK
Oh, it'll be like an over in there, too. But Brody is working on refrigerating our original hydroponics compartment, so there'll be plants to start over.

CHLOE
Start over. Just when we were on the verge of being able to feed ourselves.

PARK
If we just had a little more time.

SCOTT
Destiny drops out in twenty minutes; we gate off the ship ten minutes after that. Save what you can, cross your fingers.

[Park looks concerned.]

INT-DESTINY PERSONNEL QUARTERS AND CORRIDORS

[Personnel are preparing to gate off the ship.]

YOUNG

(over ship-wide comms)

This is Young. All personnel to the Gateroom for evacuation. Pack light, you will not be gone long.

INT-DESTINY BRIDGE

[James and Volker are working at consoles when the systems and lights begin to shut down.]

VOLKER
Did you do that?

JAMES
No!

[More lights go off, the overhead monitors begin to retract into the ceiling and the bridge starts to retract into the ship.]

JAMES
Come on!

[They hurry out, and the door closes behind them.]

JAMES

(into radio)

Colonel, the bridge just locked down.

INT-DESTINY ARMORY

[Young, Greer, TJ and several other military personnel are collecting weapons.]

YOUNG

(into radio)

Understood. Head for the Gateroom.

GREER
I hope we don't have to use any bullets. We're running low.

YOUNG
Brody will have to make some new ones.

TJ
That's time, Sir.

INT-DESTINY CORRIDOR

[Greer, TJ and the other personnel leave the armory. Park is waiting outside for Young.]

PARK
Colonel.

YOUNG
You should be in the Gateroom.

PARK
There's a third suit. We should take advantage of it.

YOUNG
Well, Rush said he and Eli-

PARK
Yeah, there's some new hybrids in the dome we could lose forever. Medicinals that might help TJ from worlds we'll never go back to.

YOUNG
Well, that whole compartment's going to go up in flames.

PARK
You have to gate off the ship while we still have the power to dial out. That leaves more than enough time to collect as many as I can, then back up Rush and Eli.

YOUNG
Okay.

PARK
Because Rush isn't as great as he thinks. And besides, I'm our expert on the suits.

YOUNG
I said, "Okay." Good luck.

PARK
Okay.

[Young and Park walk away in opposite directions.]

INT-DESTINY GATEROOM

[Young enters the Gateroom where the rest of the crew are waiting. He goes to where Scott and Eli are standing. Greer and Volker are standing nearby. Brody is by a console, while James, TJ, Chloe, Wray, Varro, Morrison, Barnes and numerous other personnel wait near the Stargate.]

YOUNG
Everyone here?

SCOTT
Except Rush.

YOUNG
Nice of him to see us off.

SCOTT
And Doctor Park.

VOLKER
What?!

YOUNG
She volunteered to use the third suit.

GREER
Didn't even try to talk her out of it. She can handle herself.

BRODY
FTL dropout in three, two...

EXT-SPACE

[Destiny drops out of FTL.]

INT-DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

[Rush is in the control interface room looking at the display. He picks up a radio.]

RUSH

(into radio)

This is Rush. We're on direct approach to a Class O star, roughly twenty-four solar masses. No drones in sight.

INT-DESTINY GATEROOM

YOUNG

(into radio)

That's good. What's our clock?

RUSH

(over radio)

I can't give you a precise time on that.

INT-DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

RUSH

(into radio)

To be safe, no less than seven hours.

INT-DESTINY GATEROOM

YOUNG

(into radio)

Understood. Stand by.

[Young goes to Eli at a console.]

YOUNG
Gates in range?

ELI

(disappointed)

We got...one.

YOUNG
I'll take it. Dial it up.

[Eli operates the console, and the Stargate activates.]

INT-WAREHOUSE ON PLANET

[The Stargate stands in a dilapidated warehouse, rubbish strewn around the floor. The Stargate activates, and a kino comes through. It floats through the warehouse and out onto a rundown street.]

INT-DESTINY GATEROOM

[Eli and Young are watching the video feed from the kino on the console screen.]

ELI
Holy crap, we dialed Pittsburgh.

[Brody is using a kino remote.]

BRODY
Atmosphere and temperature's good.

YOUNG
It looks like a human city all right.

ELI
The archive said our people spread out from Novus for centuries. That's enough time for dozens of planets to be settled with large populations.

YOUNG
They don't seem as advanced.

ELI
Depending on resources, ideology, isolation, they'd all advance at different rates. This has to be one of them.

BRODY
Or make that, "Used to be." Looks abandoned. I'm not seeing any indication of life.

YOUNG

Well, we'll find out when we get there.
(to Scott)

Lieutenant, move us out.

SCOTT
All right, people! Let's go!

[Greer and Scott step through the Stargate, followed by the rest of the crew. Young watches them go, then turns to Eli.]

YOUNG
Hey, crazy or not, it's a hell of a plan.

[He holds out a hand to Eli, who looks at it, unsure for a moment.]

ELI
Thanks.

[Eli shakes Young's hand.]

YOUNG
Yeah.

[Young walks towards the Stargate.]

ELI
I should go suit up. Help Lisa in the dome.

YOUNG
I'll see you some time after 0-seven-hundred.

ELI
Ish! We'll dial when it's cool enough to come back.

[Young nods then steps through the event horizon. Eli watches as the Stargate deactivates, then the room loses most of its power.]

INT-WAREHOUSE ON PLANET

[Young walks down the ramp from the Stargate and addresses the group.]

YOUNG
All right, people! Let's find a spot and relax. We're going to be here for a while.

[Young goes to speak with TJ, Scott, Greer, James and Wray.]

YOUNG
Well, my gut says to stay put and wait it out, but this could be a goldmine. What do you guys think?

TJ
Cities have hospitals. I've been washing bandages for months, if we could even find a pharmacy...

WRAY
Or a grocery store.

GREER
Or a gun store.

YOUNG
Thing is, these people left for a reason, we don't know what.

GREER
Have you ever been to Pittsburgh?

JAMES
Hey! I was born there!

[Scott and Greer smile.]

WRAY
I think it's worth the risk.

YOUNG
All right, we'll, ah, we'll go out in small teams. Light armaments.

[Wray and James stay with Young as the others go to prepare.]

SCOTT
Yes, Sir.

WRAY
Wait, shouldn't we all go?

JAMES
We'd cover more ground that way, Sir.

YOUNG
This already goes against my better judgment. I want you two to stay put, and you keep these people safe. Understood?

JAMES
Yes, Sir.

[Varro approaches.]

VARRO
Colonel.

YOUNG
You too. It could hit the fan in here just as easily as out there. If we are not back in seven hours, I want you to get everyone back on the ship, no search teams, no waiting. Okay?

[Varro and James nod then exchange a look.]

YOUNG

(to Wray)

Anything in particular you want me to look for?

WRAY
I'd kill for a new outfit.

[She smiles.]

YOUNG
I'll keep that in mind.

[He turns to walk away.]

WRAY

(to TJ)

Good luck.

TJ
Thanks.

[She walks away.]

EXT-STREET ON PLANET, DAY

[The Destiny personnel are investigating the area. At an intersection, Young, TJ and her team take one road, Scott, Greer and their team take the other.]

YOUNG
We'll head this way. Be smart.

SCOTT
Yes, Sir.

INT-DESTINY BOTANICAL DOME

[Eli and Park, dressed in their EVA suits, are pulling up small plants and putting them into bags.]

ELI
This was a good idea.

PARK
Yeah, I just wanted to grab as many as we can, you know? In some ways this garden was our biggest accomplishment.

ELI

(smiling)

You mean, besides the still.

PARK

(laughs)

I mean besides staying alive. You know, I come here a lot just to think, ever since it got repaired. You know when you lay down on the ground and you look up at the stars? My father and I used to do that a lot when I was a kid. He taught me all the constellations.

ELI
These stars are always changing.

RUSH

(over comms)

Eli, what are you doing?

[Eli operates the comms on the sleeve panel of his suit.]

ELI

(into comms)

Helping Doctor Park.

RUSH

(over comms)

Well, time to stop doing that. Rush out.

[Eli switches off the suit's comms system and stands up, sighing.]

ELI
Don't leave me alone with him too long, please.

PARK

(laughs)

Just going to grab a few more. I'll be right behind you.

[Eli picks up his bag of plants, his gloves and his helmet and leaves the dome.]

EXT-STREET ON PLANET, DAY

[Scott, Greer, Chloe, Volker, Brody and four others are walking along the deserted city street. There are some signs in English, such as Home Cafe.]

CHLOE
I wonder how long they've been gone.

BRODY
It's hard to say. Nature can reclaim a city pretty fast. Years, at least.

CHLOE
They were just like us, and we never knew them.

BRODY
What I can't figure out is why there's no vehicles.

[Volker goes to look in a store window.]

SCOTT
Hey, don't waste time searching stores or buildings that don't have anything useful in them.

CHLOE
If we see a shoe store, I'm going in.

SCOTT
New boots would be useful.

GREER
Lieutenant!

SCOTT
Yep?

GREER
We should split up, go on opposites sides of the street. We'll cover more ground.

SCOTT
Yeah, good idea. Ah, Brody, Chloe, and you two, you're with me.

[Scott, Brody, Chloe and two other people go to one sidewalk. Greer, Volker and the other two go to the other side of the street.]

EXT-DESTINY IN SPACE

[Destiny is approaching the blue giant star.]

INT-DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

[Rush is at a console, still in his usual clothes, when Eli comes in wearing his EVA suit.]

ELI
You're not wearing your suit.

RUSH
Well, there's plenty of time before we reach the star. Plus, we can work better without them.

ELI
Yeah, but now I look ridiculous.

RUSH

(nodding)
Yeah.
(handing Eli a notepad)

Double-check these figures for me?

ELI
Then what?

RUSH
Well, it's your plan. You tell me.

ELI
I know that, I was just asking...

RUSH
So was I.

ELI
I asked first.

RUSH
Eli, both of us have to know exactly what we're doing here. There's no room for improvisation. If we get this wrong, we've got a very big problem.

ELI
Yeah, we'll be dead!

RUSH
Which I find problematic, so how do you want to do this?

ELI
I don't understand the question.

RUSH
Oh, bloody hell! We're all doomed!

ELI
What?! We, we, p-, psh, pilot the ship manually through the star!

RUSH
Who is going to be the pilot and who is going to be the co-pilot?

ELI
I just assumed-

RUSH
Look, there's no question that in the end it's going to take both of us to pull this off. But only one of us should input the actual course corrections, and I'm trying to determine who that should be.

ELI
Okay. I'll do it.

RUSH
There, that wasn't so hard, was it?

[Eli goes towards a console.]

RUSH
Now double-check those figures for me.

INT-DESTINY BOTANICAL DOME

[Park is still pulling up seedlings and putting them into bags. An alarm sounds. She looks up and sees the sun, which is close overhead, then she collects her things and goes towards the door. Just as she gets there, the door closes, shutting her inside the dome. She tries the button twice, but the door doesn't open. So, she puts down the bags and helmet and activates the comms device on the sleeve of her EVA suit.]

PARK

(into comms)

Rush, this is Park.

INT-DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

RUSH

(into comms)

Yeah, go ahead.

INT-DESTINY BOTANICAL DOME

PARK

(into comms)

Destiny's locked down this compartment. I need you to override the door.

INT-DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

ELI
I'm on it.

[Eli goes to another console and unsuccessfully operates it.]

ELI
It's not working.

INT-DESTINY BOTANICAL DOME

[Park tries the door again, to no avail.]

EXT-STREET ON PLANET, DAY

[Volker goes into a diner where another crew member walks out with an armload of cans. Greer comes out of the back room with an armful of them.]

GREER
Look what I found.

[He puts the cans on the counter. Volker picks two of them up.]

VOLKER
All the labels are worn off. We don't know what's in them or how old they are.

GREER
We'll find out when we open them. Okay?

[Greer goes back into the back room, and Volker starts putting the cans in his bag.]

VOLKER
Mmm. Botulism.

INT-WAREHOUSE ON PLANET

[Everyone is standing and sitting around, waiting. Varro comes in from outside and goes to speak with James.]

VARRO
The sun is fading. It'll be dark soon.

JAMES
Six hours to go.

[Morrison comes from another part of the room to where Wray is standing. He is carrying a newspaper, which he shows to Wray.]

MORRISON
Check this out. I found it over there.

WRAY
Hmm. Looks like a newspaper.

MORRISON
Look at the headline.

[The newspaper is called the Terminus Tymes, and the headline reads "ATAK!!" Wray looks concerned, and James leans over to look, too.]

EXT-ROOFTOP ON PLANET, DAY

[Young is on the roof of a building, surveying the cityscape. There are miles of ruined buildings into the distance.]

YOUNG

(into radio)

This is Young. I found a decent vantage point of the city. It wasn't abandoned. These people were wiped out.

EXT-STREET ON PLANET, DAY

[Scott and Greer and their teams are making their way along the street.]

SCOTT

(into radio)

Well, we're about halfway across town, Sir. You want us to head back to the gate?

EXT-ROOFTOP ON PLANET, DAY

YOUNG

(into radio)

No, not yet. We, ah, have no idea how long ago this happened or who did it. Hopefully they're, ah, they're long gone.

EXT-STREET ON PLANET, DAY

YOUNG

(over radio)

Just keep searching for supplies.

SCOTT

(into radio)

Yes, Sir. Greer, did you copy that?

GREER

(into radio)

Yeah, keep shopping. Keep shopping.

INT-WAREHOUSE ON PLANET

[Morrison is pacing, reading the newspaper.]

MORRISON
I'm getting the gist of this. I think they're saying that the attack came from space, some kind of machines that went after their technology first. Hey, what does that sound like to you?

WRAY
I don't know, Morrison, but just keep it down.

MORRISON

(raising his voice)

What?! Don't you think these people have a right to know what they might be up against?

[James comes over to him.]

JAMES
What I think is, you need to stay calm. Give it to me.

[Morrison angrily hands over the newspaper to James. She walks over to where Varro is working on what appears to be a grenade launcher.]

JAMES
What are you doing?

VARRO
The Colonel asked me to keep these people safe, so that's what I'm doing.

EXT-STREET ON PLANET, DAY

[Greer, Volker and the others are standing outside an electronics store.]

GREER

(sighing)

What kind of city doesn't have a gun shop?

VOLKER
Maybe they're Canadian.

[Greer turns and looks down the street.]

VOLKER
What?

GREER
Listen.

[Scott and his team, further along the street, are also looking around.]

SCOTT
Greer, do you hear that?

[Greer readies his weapon.]

VOLKER
I don't hear any-

GREER
Shut up.

SCOTT

(shouting)

Let's get inside!

GREER
Come on, come on, come on. In here. Go, go!

[Greer's team run towards a building.]

SCOTT
Get in here! Get inside, get inside, get inside! Go! Go, go, go, go, go!

[Scott's team go into a building on the opposite side of the street.]

GREER
Go, go!

INT-BUILDINGS ON PLANET

[Both teams are inside buildings on opposite sides of the street. Scott and Greer take up positions where they can see outside, while everyone else takes cover.]

INT-PLANET, GREER'S TEAM'S POSITION

GREER

(into radio)

Lieutenant.

INT-PLANET, SCOTT'S TEAM'S POSITION

SCOTT

(into radio)

I hear it, but I can't see it.

INT-PLANET, GREER'S TEAM'S POSITION

[Greer ducks out of sight as, suddenly, a drone flies down the street outside.]

INT-PLANET, SCOTT'S TEAM'S POSITION

SCOTT

(into radio)

Colonel, we have what appears to be a single drone at our position. Request permission to engage.

EXT-ROOFTOP ON PLANET, DAY

[Young is making his way down the stairs from the rooftop.]

YOUNG

(into radio)

That's a negative. We don't know how many there are. Go to radio silence; do not reveal your position. Young out.

INT-BUILDINGS ON PLANET

[Greer and Scott watch the street.]

EXT-STREET ON PLANET, DAY

[The drone returns and hovers in the street between the two buildings where the Destiny crew members are taking cover.]

INT-PLANET, GREER'S TEAM'S POSITION

[Greer signals to Volker and the others to stay down.]

INT-PLANET, SCOTT'S TEAM'S POSITION

[Scott watches through the window as the drone slowly hovers past.]

INT-DESTINY BOTANICAL DOME

[Park is still standing by the closed door. She tries the button again, to no avail. The dome is brighter now.]

PARK

(into comms)

Guys?

RUSH

(over comms)

Destiny's closed off the compartment....

INT-DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

[Rush and Eli are at consoles.]

RUSH

(into comms)

...from the rest of the ship. For some reason we don't understand, it's refusing our override command.

ELI

(into comms)

We're working on it. But in the meantime, you should put the rest of your suit on. We're only a few minutes out; it's going to start getting pretty hot in here.

INT-DESTINY BOTANICAL DOME

PARK

(into comms)

Okay.

[She goes to put her helmet on.]

INT-DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

RUSH
We don't have time for this.

ELI
It was a good idea.

RUSH
Yeah, well maybe it was, but she took too long, and now she could end up paying the price.

[Eli continues his attempts to override the command, frustrated that it isn't working.]

EXT-ALLEYWAY ON PLANET, DAY

[TJ and her team are carrying several large hold-alls. They meet up with Young, who comes out of a building.]

YOUNG
Hey!

TJ
Hey!

YOUNG
Success.

TJ
The hospital's probably in the part of the city that was taken out. We found what passed for a pharmacy, mostly cleaned out, but...

YOUNG
Well, why don't you take what you got back to the gate. It's going to be dark soon.

TJ
What about Scott and Greer's team?

YOUNG
I'll worry about them. You guys get going.

[TJ's team goes in one direction, Young in another.]

EXT-STREET ON PLANET, DAY

[The drone is still hovering in the air at ground-floor level in the street between the buildings where the Destiny crew members are taking cover.]

INT-PLANET, SCOTT'S TEAM'S POSITION

[Chloe and Brody are on the floor behind a desk.]

CHLOE
What's it doing?

SCOTT
I'm not sure. I think it knows we're here.

CHLOE
Are you sure there's only one?

BRODY
One too many.

EXT-STREET ON PLANET, DAY

[The drone swings around and faces the building where Scott and his team are taking cover. The pitch of its sound increases.]

INT-PLANET, GREER'S TEAM'S POSITION

[Greer gestures urgently to Volker.]

GREER
Give me a can, give me a can!

[Volker takes one of the cans from his backpack and throws it to Greer.]

EXT-STREET ON PLANET, DAY

[Greer steps outside into the street and throws the can some yards up the street, where it hits a metal bench with a loud clang. As Greer ducks back inside the doorway, the drone spins around and fires at where the can landed.]

INT-PLANET, GREER'S TEAM'S POSITION

[Greer watches as the drone slowly flies up the street.]

INT-PLANET, SCOTT'S TEAM'S POSITION

[Scott gasps in relief.]

EXT-DESTINY IN THE SUN

[Destiny flies into the blue sun.]

INT-DESTINY BOTANICAL DOME

[Park is standing near the door in the dome. It is extremely bright, and there is a haze in the air.]

PARK

(into comms)

Guys? You haven't forgotten about me, have you?

INT-DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

ELI

(into comms)

We're still working on it.

RUSH
That's the second time Destiny's tried to abort her approach and the second time I've had to override it.

ELI
If it lets you do that, why won't it let us open a damn door?

RUSH
I don't understand that, either.

[Eli bangs the console in frustration.]

ELI
That's it.

[He goes to leave.]

ELI
I'm going down there to try to pry the door open.

RUSH

(into comms)

Doctor Park...

INT-DESTINY BOTANICAL DOME

RUSH

(over comms)

...this is Rush. Can you hear me?

PARK

(into comms)

Yeah, I'm still here.

INT-DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

[Rush holds his hand up in a gesture to stop Eli leaving.]

RUSH

(into comms)

Now listen very carefully.

[Eli stops and listens.]

RUSH

(into comms)

Eli's spending more time and energy on your predicament than we can afford.

INT-DESTINY BOTANICAL DOME

PARK

(into comms, smiling)

Well, thank you, Eli!

RUSH

(over comms)

No, no, you don't understand.

INT-DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

RUSH

(into comms)

The point is, Eli has to stop worrying about you and start worrying about the more important task of flying this ship.

[Eli steps over to a console and activates the comms.]

ELI

(into comms)

You're what's important. Don't listen to him.

RUSH

(into comms)

You're wearing the EVA suit.

INT-DESTINY BOTANICAL DOME

RUSH

(over comms)

That should provide you with enough protection, even inside...

INT-DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

RUSH

(into comms)

...the dome. You know that better than me.

INT-DESTINY BOTANICAL DOME

PARK

(into comms, frightened)

You want me to stay in here? What about the plants I saved?

RUSH

(over comms)

Doctor Park, forget about the plants and please listen...

INT-DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

RUSH

(into comms)

...to me very carefully. There's a collection pool near the center of the compartment.

INT-DESTINY BOTANICAL DOME

RUSH

(over comms)

As long as you're fully immersed and secure...

INT-DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

RUSH

(into comms)

...during the transition through the star, then the water should provide enough protection to see you through.

INT-DESTINY BOTANICAL DOME

PARK

(into comms)

Do you really think that's going to work?

INT-DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

RUSH

(into comms)

I promise you it will... Look, I'm sorry, but there's really no other way. Rush out.

ELI

(bitterly)

Son of a bitch.

RUSH

(unconvinced)

She'll be fine.

EXT-STREET ON PLANET, NIGHT

[The drone is still hovering in the street.]

INT-PLANET, GREER'S TEAM'S POSITION

[Greer watches as the drone slowly flies up the street.]

INT-PLANET, SCOTT'S TEAM'S POSITION

[Brody and Chloe are still on the floor behind the desk. Scott watches the drone.]

INT-PLANET, GREER'S TEAM'S POSITION

[Greer is watching the drone.]

VOLKER
It was probably drawn in by the Stargate activation first, then picked up our radio signals.

GREER
Whatever. We can't stay. Sooner or later, we got to make a move.

VOLKER

(whispering)

Listen!

INT-PLANET, SCOTT'S TEAM'S POSITION

[Scott, Chloe and Brody are listening.]

INT-WAREHOUSE ON PLANET

[James, Morrison and others hear a drone pass overhead.]

MORRISON
You hear that?! They're coming.

JAMES

Everybody stay still and (pointedly at Morrison)

stay quiet.

INT-PLANET, GREER'S TEAM'S POSITION

[Greer watches through the window as the first drone outside is joined by a second.]

INT-PLANET, SCOTT'S TEAM'S POSITION

SCOTT
There's two of them out there now.

BRODY
Bet there's a lot more left over after the attack. Probably scattered all over the planet.

CHLOE
What are we going to do?

SCOTT
I don't know, but-

[Scott is interrupted by a bright light from one of the drones shining straight at the building where he and his team are taking cover.]

INT-PLANET, GREER'S TEAM'S POSITION

[Greer sees the drone sweeping the windows of the other building with a spotlight.]

GREER
Okay, it's made the Lieutenant's position. When I start firing, you run.

[Volker looks anxious.]

INT-PLANET, SCOTT'S TEAM'S POSITION

[Scott, Chloe and Brody stay out of sight.]

INT-WAREHOUSE ON PLANET

[Morison is pacing nervously. He goes to a pack on the floor and takes out a remote.]

WRAY
What are you doing?

MORRISON
This thing's showing two other planets in range.

WRAY
Yeah, but only this one's in range of Destiny.

MORRISON
Yeah, well I'm not going to sit around here waiting to get killed.

[He operates the remote, and the Stargate starts to dial.]

WRAY
Hey!

JAMES
What are you doing?!

[James comes charging over to Morrison.]

MORRISON
Getting the hell out-

[James elbows in him in the face, knocking him to the floor. As she hits him, she takes the remote from his hand and stops the dialing sequence.]

INT-PLANET, SCOTT'S TEAM'S POSITION

[Scott is standing by the window, out of sight of the drone.]

INT-PLANET, GREER'S TEAM'S POSITION

[Greer sees one of the drones fly away.]

INT-PLANET, SCOTT'S TEAM'S POSITION

JAMES

(over radio)

This is James. Morrison tried...

INT-WAREHOUSE ON PLANET

JAMES

(into radio)

...dialing the Stargate, but I think I stopped him in time.

INT-PLANET, SCOTT'S TEAM'S POSITION

SCOTT

(into radio)

Negative, negative! One of the drones is now headed your way.

INT-PLANET, GREER'S TEAM'S POSITION

[Greer watches out the window.]

SCOTT

(over radio)

Stay off your radio, we-

EXT-STREET ON PLANET, NIGHT

[The drone fires a blast into the front of the building where Scott and his team are taking cover.]

INT-PLANET, SCOTT'S TEAM'S POSITION

[Glass and debris fly through the room, showering Brody and Chloe.]

INT-PLANET, GREER'S TEAM'S POSITION

[Greer steps outside, weapon ready.]

EXT-STREET ON PLANET, NIGHT

[Greer opens fire on the drone.]

INT-PLANET, GREER'S TEAM'S POSITION

[Volker and the others jump up to escape.]

EXT-STREET ON PLANET, NIGHT

[Scott opens fire on the drone. Greer and Scott engage the drone while Volker and the others make their escape from Greer's position. Greer narrowly misses being hit by a blast from the drone, jumping clear of the resulting explosion.]

SCOTT

(to Chloe and Brody and the others, yelling)

Get out of there!

[They run out of the building and up the street. Scott and Greer keep firing on the drone. Scott narrowly misses being hit by a blast. They continue firing and are joined by Young. The three men have the drone in the center of a triangle. As they fire relentlessly, it spins in circles until, finally, it is disabled and falls to the street. As they walk over to investigate, Brody and Chloe and the others step out from the shadows.]

SCOTT
Thanks for the back-up, Sir.

YOUNG
All good. Come on, we should get out of the open.

[As they walk away, Greer gives the drone a kick. Young picks up two bags from the ground.]

GREER
You found something?

YOUNG
Let's move!

[They walk away up the street.]

EXT-DESTINY IN THE STAR

INT-DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

[Eli and Rush are now wearing their full EVA suits, including gloves and helmets. An alarm is sounding as Eli frantically operates the controls.]

ELI
We get it! You don't want to do this! Can we shut that off, please?

[Rush switches off the alarm.]

ELI
Thank you.

RUSH
Navigation systems beginning to shut themselves down. You now have full manual control.

ELI
Got it. Our approach is good.

[The ship shudders violently.]

RUSH
Mean interior temperature just passed one hundred and fifty degrees Fahrenheit and rising.

ELI
What if Destiny locked down that compartment and wouldn't let us override because it knew that the dome couldn't sustain the stress of going through the star? You already thought of that.

RUSH
I considered the possibility, yes.

ELI
You told her she'd be fine!

RUSH
And I still believe that! But only if you do what you're here to do and stop worrying about something you can do nothing about!

[The ship shudders again.]

EXT-STREET ON PLANET, NIGHT

[TJ and her team are walking along the street. They hear a drone approaching.]

TJ
Take cover!

[They run to the stand in the shadows by a building as the drone passes overhead.]

TJ
All right, let's go.

INT-WAREHOUSE ON PLANET

[Everyone sits quietly, listening to the drone approaching. James goes to the doorway.]

EXT-OUTSIDE WAREHOUSE ON PLANET, NIGHT

[James looks around and sees the drone approaching. She steels her nerve then steps out into the open and switches on her radio.]

JAMES

(into radio)

This is James. We got a drone at the front door.

EXT-STREET ON PLANET, NIGHT

[Young, Scott, Greer and the others are hurrying along the street.]

SCOTT

(into radio)

Damn it, LT! I said to stay off your radio.

EXT-OUTSIDE WAREHOUSE ON PLANET, NIGHT

SCOTT

(over radio)

They are drawn to the signal.

JAMES

(into radio)

Yes, Sir. I'm counting on it.

[She steps further outside, and the drone heads towards her position. Varro steps out of the shadows a few feet from James and fires his rocket launcher at the drone. It explodes in a fireball.]

EXT-STREET ON PLANET, NIGHT

[Young and the others see the fireball in the sky.]

EXT-OUTSIDE WAREHOUSE ON PLANET, NIGHT

[James puts her arm over her head as debris rains down on the ground. She breathes a sigh of relief. Varro starts towards her when TJ and her team come from behind him.]

TJ
Nice shot!

VARRO
Thank you.

TJ
Anyone hurt?

JAMES
Yeah. Morrison. I broke his nose.

[TJ smiles and pats James on the arm as she walks past and into the warehouse.]

INT-DESTINY BOTANICAL DOME

[Park is making her way through the compartment. She comes to the water tank and climbs inside, still holding the bags of plants. She secures her mag boots to the end of the tank and lies face down in the water, completely submerged.]

EXT-DESTINY IN THE STAR

[The shields are flickering as the ship flies through the star.]

INT-DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

ELI
Okay, we're in the star!

RUSH
Shields are holding. Activating collectors.

[Eli operates his controls.]

ELI
We're going in too steep.

RUSH
Variance is nominal; you're doing fine.

ELI
Magnetic fluctuations are way greater than I predicted. I'm not sure I can stay ahead of it.

RUSH
You can do this!

ELI
I don't why I ever thought I could!

RUSH
I know you can!

ELI
There are too many variables!

[Rush leaves his console and comes over to Eli.]

RUSH
Eli! You're the only one who can!

[Eli frantically works the controls on his console.]

INT-DESTINY BOTANICAL DOME

[All the plants in the dome burst into flame. The water in the tank is boiling around Park. She squeezes her eyes shut.]

INT-TUNNEL ON PLANET

[Young and the others are walking along a dark underground tunnel, using flashlights to see where they are going.]

SCOTT
You sure this is the right way, Sir?

YOUNG
Short cut.

GREER
Are you sure?

YOUNG
It's the one I took to find you. Yes, I'm sure.

INT-DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

RUSH
Reserves are at maximum capacity. Retracting collectors.

ELI
We're pulling out, entering the photosphere. Sublight drives are at full power.

RUSH

(smiling)

You've done it!

ELI
Almost.

EXT-DESTINY IN THE STAR

[As Destiny skims the surface of the star, the botanical dome on top is full of flame.]

INT-DESTINY BOTANICAL DOME

[The water in the tank is boiling violently around Park.]

EXT-DESTINY IN THE STAR

[As Destiny skims the surface of the star, the botanical dome bursts open.]

INT-DESTINY BOTANICAL DOME

[The flames, water and Park are pulled suddenly upwards towards the breach in the dome. Park's mag boots hold her in place. She opens her eyes, then closes them, screaming. She is still holding one bag of plants.]

INT-DESTINY CONTROL INTERFACE ROOM

ELI
We did it! We made it through!

RUSH

(smiling)

Mean interior temperature, three hundred and ten degrees.

ELI
Oh, is that all?

[Eli laughs.]

RUSH
I should start cooling the Gateroom first. They could be back-

[He stops speaking as the diagrammatic of the ship on his screen shows a large, red flashing light at the dome's position. He looks at it in horror.]

ELI
What?

RUSH
The hydroponic dome's been breached.

[Eli runs from the room.]

RUSH
Eli!

INT-WAREHOUSE ON PLANET

[Wray is showing the newspaper to TJ.]

WRAY
This was printed on the third day of the attack. The plan was to move the Stargate from a place they called "Terminus" to an older part of the city. I guess, here.

[James looks at her watch.]

TJ
No technology to attract them.

[Varro is by the door on lookout.]

WRAY
From what I could make out, volunteers were driving vehicles away from the city to draw the drones. Save as many people as they could.

[Young and the others arrive.]

JAMES

(relieved)

Sir! Welcome back!

YOUNG
Nice work, Lieutenant.

JAMES
Varro's the one who fired the shot.

YOUNG

(nodding to Varro)

Well, let's just get out of here before more show up.

SCOTT
Half hour to go.

YOUNG
Well, how is that not close enough?

WRAY
What's in the bag?

YOUNG
Hopefully, that is your new outfit. I couldn't find a gun store or a grocery store, but I found a dry cleaner.

[Wray smiles and hands the newspaper to Young.]

INT-DESTINY CORRIDOR

[Eli is running along the corridor. He goes through a door and comes to the dome.]

ELI

(over comms)

Lisa! Come in! Lisa, it's Eli. I'm outside. Can you hear me?

PARK

(over comms)

I'm at the door! The compartment's vented.

ELI

(into comms)

Rush, did you hear that?

RUSH

(over comms)

Yes, yes.

INT-DESTINY GATEROOM

[Rush has his helmet off.]

RUSH

(into comms)

We're through the star; I may be able to override.

[He operates the controls on the console.]

RUSH

(into comms)

Are you secure?

INT-DESTINY CORRIDOR

ELI

(into comms)

Ready!

[The door opens and the atmosphere rushes from the corridor into the dome. Park is standing just inside.]

ELI
Take my hand!

[They reach out to each other and clasp hands. Eli helps Park into the corridor and closes the door. Park is sobbing.]

ELI
I got you. You okay?

PARK

(sobbing)

Eli, I can't see.

INT-WAREHOUSE ON PLANET

[Varro is on lookout while they wait for enough time to elapse to return to the ship. They hear a loud engine sound outside.]

SCOTT
Sounds different than before.

GREER
I don't much like the difference.

YOUNG

(to James)

You dial the gate.

WRAY
No, we're ten minutes too soon.

YOUNG
Close enough.

[James dials the gate.]

INT-DESTINY GATEROOM

[Rush watches as the Stargate activates.]

EXT-PLANET, NIGHT

[Young, Greer, Varro and Scott are outside the warehouse, looking up at the sky. A drone command ship descends from the clouds. The four men rush inside.]

EXT-DESTINY IN SPACE

INT-DESTINY GATEROOM

[Rush is at the console; the room is full of people and Young and the last personnel come through. Rush goes to Young as the wormhole shuts down.]

YOUNG
Ouf! Hot in here.

RUSH
You're ten minutes early.

YOUNG
We didn't have much of a choice.

RUSH

(to TJ)

Lieutenant Johansen, there's a patient waiting for you in the infirmary. Eli's with her now.

[Greer looks concerned.]

TJ
What happened?

RUSH
Flash blindness. Hopefully it's temporary?

[TJ and Greer run off. Volker watches them go.]

YOUNG
But otherwise?

RUSH
Eli got us through. I kept checking his calculations, looking for a mistake, but there wasn't any. It was genius. I've never seen anything like it. Please don't tell him I told you that!

YOUNG
We might have to do it again.

RUSH
The drones aren't going to fall for that trick again. Plus, this star's extremely rare, so the chances-

YOUNG
So we're, we're back to where we started.

RUSH

Well, not exactly.
(looking at Volker)

At least we've got a full tank of gas.

[Rush walks away.]

VOLKER AND BRODY

(sarcastically)

Yay.

EXT-DESTINY IN SPACE

[Destiny jumps into FTL.]
